Donà Rouge

Donà Rouge originates from a desire to develop something particularly special from the local Schiava grapes. The oft-forgotten or misconceived potential of this ancient vine was reinterpreted or, to be more precise, rediscovered.

It all began with a sunny, breezy vineyard in Merano located at an altitude of 450 meters with a glacial terrain of medium cosistency on which grew forty to fifty-year old knotted vines with deep roots.
When cultivated with the utmost of care and in a natural manner, they produce but a few bunches of small, succulent grapes.

The basic idea of Donà Rouge was then developed by virtue of a careful, delicate vinification of the Schiava grapes with the addition of 10% of Lagrein and 10% of Pinot Noir.
By not filtrating and by opting to leave the wine to rest in wooden casks (20 months) and then allowing it to mature in bottles, we obtained a red wine with a harmonious, mildly spicy character.
