Harmann Donà

It all began with a small and precious family vineyard located in Cornaiano where I grew up and worked since I was a boy. It was there that my passion for nature, vine-growing and wine was born.

Upon completing my studies in viticulture and oenology in Germany, I returned to the Alto Adige region. I found work as an oenologist in the wine-cellar of Terlano where, from 1999 to 2002 I had the opportunity to experiment a great deal. I developed an intimate knowledge of a very special terroir and came to understand the enormous potential of this land of ours.

In 2000, I decided to vintage my own wine, The Pinot Nero Donà Noir, with grapes from my vineyard in Cornaiano. In 2001, I added to my production with the Donà Rouge and the Donà Blanc. The grapes for these two wines come from a spectacular vineyard located in Merano.

It is an extraordinarily steep vineyard with a slope of up to 70% in parts, and with very old vines. The exclusively manual process employed is rewarded by wines that are entirely unique.
They are all special wines born of natural (bio-dynamic) wine-growing where a living earth, full of micro-organisms enables healthy, robust plants to grow. These vines are well balanced by deep roots and an in-built vigour that provide grapes that are both mature and full of flavour.
These very beautiful grapes are then processed in our wine-cellar with a care and patience that that transforms the uniqueness of our region into wine.

At present we are working on 4.5 hectares of vineyard with an annual production of 15,000 to 20,000 bottles.
